This article I wrote was recently published in the Venice Gondolier:Why is Everyone Moving to Venice, FL??
While the reasons to move to the beautiful state of Florida may seem obvious to many- magnificent beaches, radiant sunshine, laid back lifestyle…(I could go on and on here) what is it that makes my home town so special to relocating families and retirees alike?
Located just south of the busy town of Sarasota and north of overloaded Fort Myers, Venice is the hidden gem of the west coast. The west coast of Florida is known for the mellow, unhurried living that families and retirees enjoy, where the east coast is more hustle-bustle. Here on the west coast, we get the beautiful beaches, quality dining and wild life of the other coast- without the traffic. Not to mention it’s expensive over there. Very expensive. While some prefer to carouse the wild streets of South Beach on a daily basis, we west-coasters find it more suitable for a fun weekend getaway.
What makes Venice so special? Our beautiful beaches? Our top notch cuisine? Maybe it’s our ongoing activities for every age? I’ll let you in on the secret. It’s our size! We are a small town. Most of the happenings in Venice occur on the island- the main hub of Venice. While there are many people living on the island, the majority of our population resides on the mainland. The size of Venice Island limits our growth, and our zoning laws prevent it from becoming commercialized. Venice will always have that small town feel while also providing luxury amenities. Although most happenings occur on the island, there are plenty of reasons people choose to live off of the island on the mainland. Venice boasts top notch golf course communities, state parks, and much more! Not to mention, at any point in Venice, you will never be more than 20 minutes from the beach MAX!
All in all, people are moving to Venice for the same reasons I love living here. As a REALTOR?, I have the privilege of introducing people to my wonderful town. Many people stay in one of our rental properties (usually during our season, January, February and March) and fall in love with our community, leading them to purchase a home and relocate. I also work with people that are looking ahead for their retirement that decide to purchase a home and lease it out through our company. Then, when they are able, they migrate into the home themselves. I have also worked with relocating families that see Venice as a fun, safe, supportive environment to raise their children.
That is why everyone is moving to Venice. And who could blame them? The only way you can truly appreciate Venice is to come experience the “island life” for yourself. We’ll be waiting!
